Remezcla x Chevy - Silverado

Production + Post Production

Brief: produce and deliver x2 :60 branded content editorial spots showcasing the 2026 Chevy Silverado.

Solution: We had two and a half weeks to pitch and prep for the shoot. We relied on our extended Topspin family here in Houston, Texas to help make this project happen.

General Approach: Trust. This was our third automotive project with Remezcla. The team knows they can lean on us to deliver the goods and have a good time doing it. They came to us with an idea and trusted our process to make it happen.

Felipe Prieto - Silverado Trail Boss

In late 2020, I (Javi) began a documentary project to better understand the upper Gulf Coast. During my research, I connected with Coastal Prairie Conservancy, a local nonprofit working to protect the Texas coastal prairie. Through that partnership I’ve met passionate, creative people and gained a newfound appreciation for this landscape.

The concept was ‘Nuestra Tierra, Nuestro Lente’ or ‘Our Lens, Our Land’ — two photographers exploring their creative approach in relation to the landscape. Our photographers, Felipe and Jimena, would be flying in from out of town. After speaking with them about their respective photography practice, I cooked up a game plan for the shoot. Part of Felipe’s practice is focused on birds and wildlife. The upper Texas Coast is a part of a migratory flyway path, making it one of the best birding spots in the country. My first thought was shooting at Brazoria Wildlife Refuge, which has a fairly generous filming policy. I went and scouted the location but with a looming government shutdown, I knew I needed to pivot to a location that would give us peace of mind.

After a five year working relationship with the team at CPC, they’ve become part of the Topspin extended family. They own and manage 55 acres outside of Houston with a welcome center; because of our existing relationship, they allowed us to use the space for free. Our plan for the day was to shoot the features we needed for the truck by a large, beautiful Oak tree and then follow Felipe around the property to rip a couple of frames. By picking a location that checked all our boxes, we were able to move through our shotlist very efficiently. We ambitiously managed a company move to capture blue hour at a separate viewing platform nearby.

For day 2 we needed to get running shots of the Silverado for our video. We decided it wasn’t worth it to try and get them on a public road. Because of a tight deadline, we wouldn’t be able to secure permits and the hassle of setting up the car rig would eat into our schedule. We only needed a few shots for the video so going with a drone seemed like a better fit. With one more favor from CPC we were able to access to a private reserve closer to the coast. Having been out there previously, I knew we’d be able to get unobstructed 360 coverage of the Silverado thanks to the support of Topspin-approved™️ drone-LORDS over at BetoFPV. The drone was able to act as a camera car without all the logistical hassles. We were able to get to a more remote location and be shooting within 20 minutes of arriving.

Scenic is not the first word that comes to mind for most people when thinking of the Texas Gulf Coast. It’s definitely an IYKYK-type of landscape. What made this shoot so rewarding was being able to share it at sunset with everyone, and share that appreciation and understanding I’ve gained over the years.

Jimena Peck - Silverado ZR2

A few years ago, on a research mission for CPC, I met Will Kearney, At the time Will was working with them as a consulting partner supporting landowners restore their properties. We kept in touch over the years and eventually I made it out to his family’s ranch out in Columbus, Texas. Jimena mentioned her interest in working lands and the stewards who tend to them. Will is focused on regenerative grazing and has about 300 goats and 50-ish head of cattle. Jimena hails from the Pampas region of Argentina. A realization that I had during pre-production was the overlap that existed between the two landscapes and cultures. The pampas sit at an almost symmetrical latitude in the Southern Hemisphere as the coastal prairie. These kinds of connections are the extra 1-2% that I think really make a difference with these projects. Even if it’s just for us, we can go into a project knowing we're being fully intentional with our approach.

Having another self contained location to shoot everything gave us a lot of flexibility on the day. Our 1.5 hour commute ate into our shooting schedule for the day, so we needed to keep things moving and be efficient. Over the years we’ve dialed our in-house Topspin kit™️ exactly for these scenarios. At Topspin we’re big believers of bringing the right tools for the job. During our pre-production phase, DP David Mejia and the Topspin production team created four separate camera packages to support different scenarios. This allowed us to move super quickly and naturally on set with minimal down time working on cameras. Our general approach for these shoots is to be prepared and leave a little bit of room for improvisation on the day.

After wrapping our main shot list, we wanted to give Jimena the opportunity to walk around the ranch with Will and smaller crew in a way that would more closely resemble her actual photography practice. This last part was my favorite of the whole shoot and we created some of the best images from the campaign this way.
